1. What is an Artist’s Statement? a. It is a brief statement (75 words or less) about your entry including source of the design, inspiration, and the relation to the theme if any. 2. Is the competition open to anyone? a. Yes. 3. What is the difference in members or non-members fees? a. Members pay $20 per entry; non members pay $30 per entry. 4. Who do I make the cheque out to? a. The cheque should be made out to Focus on Fibre Art Association. 5. Do you accept credit cards? a. No. 6. What is best: 8x10 pictures, slides or digital? a. Digital or slides are best. 7. Where can I get an entry form? I don’t have access to a computer. a. Contact the Show Secretary at: 6309 – 90 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6B 0P1 and request an entry form. 8. What is the definition of ‘original’? a. FFAA’s definition is: ‘Firsthand, not copied or derived from another source. Ideas that are generated from the artist’s imagination or executed from pictures taken with the artist’s camera are original.’ 9. What is the definition of ‘counted stitches’? a. Counted stitches or counted embroidery is embroidery that is produced by stitching over a planned number of fabric elements. From ‘The Open Canvas’ by Carolyn Ambuter. 10. Why do we need a value on my piece? a. Art pieces on display or in transit are not insured by the Focus on Fibre Art Assoc. Therefore, to protect these pieces against loss or damage a value enables the owner to claim this assigned value against home or car insurance based on an appraised or documented value for the art piece. 11. What are the requirements in the Doll Category? a. All entries must have cloth heads filled with stuffing only – no hard surfaces. Faces may be needle sculpted, embroidered, or painted on fabric. i. Abstract – in this category the human form maybe merely suggested. The emphasis is on design & surface embellishment. ii. Representational – this category represents a human life figure, in any style – caricature, fantasy or realistic. 12. Do we get a critic on each piece? a. Yes. 13. How do we know if we have been accepted into the show? a. We notify accepted pieces by email or phone. 14. Who can join the Association and can we attend meetings? a. Anyone may join and may attend meetings. 15. How do I contact the guilds you have listed? a. Check the Links page for contact information. |
